RELAXED PERFORMANCE – RAPUNZEL

Once Upon a time, in a far off Kingdom, a bargain is struck and a young girl is taken from her parents. Locked away from the world “to keep her safe”, the young Rapunzel grows up dreaming of adventures and life outside of her lonely room at the top of a tall tower. And as she grows up, her hair grows longer and longer and longer. Adapted from the original fairy tale, this magical musical play explores how the power of love can both blind us and help us see. And it’s also about the hair, that ridiculously long hair… From the creative team behind last year’s enchanting Robin Hood & Maid Marian and performed by University of Lincoln’s graduating drama students, this is the ideal festive treat for the whole family. Relaxed performances are created to be a more relaxed presentation of a show, with adapted sound and lighting and minor script adjustments, plus increased wheelchair capacity. We also offer a chill out zone in one of our studios so you can take a break from the action too! People with a learning or physical disability, autistic spectrum condition, or sensory or communication disorder are especially welcome. Tickets: £10

PENTALUM LUMINARIUM

Enter a dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes. From the Guggenheim in Spain to the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the monumental and interactive walk-in sculptures of Architects of Air and designer Alan Parkinson have astounded audiences across the globe. Now, as part of our 10th Birthday celebrations we’re delighted to share this unique sensory experience with Lincoln. A monument to the beauty of light and colour the Pentalum luminarium is a feast for the senses. Visitors are transported to another world of cavernous domes, tunnels and pods, covering half the size of a football pitch and creating a sense of wonder and enchantment for all ages. Visitors are invited wander, to lie down, to sit down and enjoy the ambience and the space. Many people find it a transformative experience, with visitors describing it as like walking through a stained glass window or being in a live painting or even like being inside a spaceship. Follow the young inventor Monty as he creates a whole world of whacky inventions and incredible monsters, but he has a problem – now he has made them all, what is he going to do with them?! NICK SHARRATT’S BIG DRAW-ALONG

Join acclaimed children’s writer and illustrator Nick Sharratt to find out how he creates his picture books. He’ll show you how to draw Tracy Beaker and Timothy Pope, kings and cats and all kinds of crazy creatures. Plus he’ll share some of his very best drawing tips. Bring pencils, paper and something to lean on and expect plenty of chances to join in! Nick has illustrated close to 260 books. They range from board books for babies to novels for young teenagers. He’s worked with authors including Julia Donaldson, Jeremy Strong, Michael Rosen, Giles Andreae, Kaye Umansky, Kes Gray and most notably Dame Jacqueline Wilson and he’s also written around 40 of his own bestselling books. Be careful what you wish for… Stephen Sondheim’s magical and musical intertwining of Grimm’s fairy tales follows the story of the Baker and his wife who wish for a child, Cinderella who wishes to go to the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes for his cow to give milk. When the Baker and his wife discover that their family has been cursed by the neighbourhood witch they set off on a journey into the woods in search of a cure. Also in the woods, we meet Little Red, the Wolf, the Witch’s daughter Rapunzel, and the Princes chasing after their loves.
