Fun Palace 2021

FUN PALACES supports local people to co-create their own cultural and community events, sharing and celebrating the genius in everyone.

In Lincoln our local Fun Palaces have joined together to create a trail across the city, with free events and activities. We hope that people will make new discoveries along the way and engage with new locations and venues. Along with activities being led by people who live locally, pre-existing clubs, organisations and businesses will be holding free taster sessions, allowing exposure to the city’s regular programme and knowledge of what is on offer right on our doorstep.

This year’s fun palace features: ART. CIRCUS. CRAFTING. LEGO BUILDING. SPORT. STORYTELLING. THEATRE. TEXTILES YOGA. WORKSHOPS

The modern Fun Palace is inspired by an idea conceived in 1961 by legendary theatre director Joan Littlewood (Oh! What A Lovely War, Fings Ain’t What They Used To Be and A Taste of Honey) and architect Cedric Price – to build a ‘laboratory of fun’, where visitors can chose what they want to do or where they can watch someone else learn something, be it art, craft or scientific experiment. Most importantly a Fun Palace was to be part of the community and led by that community. In 2021 Lincoln’s Fun Palace Trail represents just such an opportunity to be part of a city wide creative community.

At each location, there will be a secret task which you can note down on your trail-map. If you answer all questions correctly and hand your trail-map in at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, you will receive a Fun Palace reward (subject to availability, so get in quick)!
