Cast a light on music history and the cultural impact of some distinctly different musical genres in this two-part event with Guy Mankowski and John Robb.
GUY MANKOWSKI and KATE JACKSON talk about Guy’s new book Albion’s Secret History. Focusing on figures who served to define England’s unofficial cultural history, Guy penetrates the surface of England’s pop history, including the venues it was shaped in, alongside art, film, architecture and politics, and throws new light on the ideas of Englishness it reveals. Guy is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at University of Lincoln and the author of three novels. Kate was lead singer for the Long Blondes.
As a journalist, author and musician, JOHN ROBB has travelled to all corners of the music world, from coining the word ‘Britpop’ to being the first person to interview Nirvana. In his upcoming book The Art of Darkness: A Complete History of Goth Music and Culture, the world’s most shadowy musical sub-culture is laid out in a riot of interviews and anecdotes from the musicians that soundtracked black-clad generations.
