KINDERTRANSPORT at The Blue Room

Chapter House Ensemble

2018/19 marks the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport; the astonishing mission to rescue children from the hands of the Nazis and bring them to safety.

Thousands travelled by train and ship, leaving behind their parents and wider family, in order to have the chance of new lives – lives free from persecution.

Composers Robert Steadman and Hannah Borrill have created a “concert documentary” telling the story of the Kindertransport in words, song and music, incorporating traditional music alongside specially composed new work. The piece follows the lives of the children in Germany and Czechoslakia: the effect of Kristallnacht, the journeys across Europe and how they settled into their new lives.

The second half of the evening will feature Simcha – Lincoln’s very own a Klezmer band – performing an uplifting range of traditional Jewish music
