Fri 15th Oct - Fri 15th Oct
Acclaimed fiction writers Hanna Jameson and Christy Lefteri discuss their latest books in this two-part author event with two brilliant British novelists.
HANNA JAMESON wrote her first book aged 17. Her writing has been described as ‘like an angel on speed’ ―Q Magazine, and her bestselling fourth novel The Last as ‘compulsively readable’ ―Daily Telegraph: a nuclear weapon has been detonated over Washington and in a Swiss hotel an historian searches for the truth about a murdered girl … Hanna will be joined by author Dr Guy Mankowski to discuss how an English novelist went about capturing the world’s final days and what kind of a shadow America cast over the story.
CHRISTY LEFTERI is the author of the million-copy bestseller The Beekeeper of Aleppo. Her new book, Songbirds, is set in Cyprus; it is a story of love and loss, of migration and crossing borders. Yannis, a poacher of songbirds, is in love with Nisha who works as a nanny, while mothering her own child back in Sri Lanka by the screen of a phone. With infinite skill, Christy has crafted a powerful story around them, about the unseen who walk among us, cleaning our homes and caring for our children, and explores what it is to migrate in search of freedom, only to find yourself trapped. ‘A courageous, provocative, haunting writer. Songbirds is a beautiful novel. It will break your heart and open your eyes’ ―Heather Morris. Brought up in London of Cypriot refugees, Christy is a lecturer in creative writing at Brunel University.
